I have been working on the new Microsoft Teams app deployment for one of the customers. Following the successful deployment, a number of Windows 10 users reported an error soon after launching the new Teams app.

Now we know that the error “We’ve run into an issue” is a common error associated with the Microsoft Classic Teams app.

The most common solutions that worked were to restart the application and check your internet connection. Clearing the Teams cache or reinstalling the software was a more comprehensive solution.

However, if you encounter the same error with the new Microsoft Teams app on Windows 10, the solution is very different. So, let us look at how to fix this error specific to the new Microsoft Teams app.

Error We’ve run into an issue with New Microsoft Teams

The error message “We’ve run into an issue” appears soon after launching the new MS Teams app because of the missing Edge WebView2 runtime on Windows 10.

To resolve this error, you must download and install Edge WebView2 Runtime, then restart the Teams desktop app.

The below screenshot demonstrates the new Teams error that occurs after launching the app. The error description states, “We can’t find a required component to run Teams. Download and install it, and then try opening Teams again.”

The new Microsoft Teams client requires Edge WebView2 to function. Microsoft Edge WebView2 lets developers embed web content (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) in native applications. This component must be installed for the new Microsoft Teams client to work.

On Windows 11, the Edge WebView2 Runtime is pre-installed along with the Microsoft Edge browser. Hence, you don’t encounter the MS Teams error on Windows 11.

Whereas on Windows 10, this Edge WebView2 Runtime needs to be installed if the device is missing it. If you have multiple Windows 10 devices that need this component, you can distribute the Edge WebView2 using SCCM.

To download the latest version of Edge WebView2, go to the Microsoft Edge WebView2 download page. Or you can click on the Download Edge WebView2 button in the error window.

The browser takes you to the download page, from where you can get the latest version of the Edge WebView2 component.

Next, run the Edge WebView2 installer and wait for the installation to complete.

Once the Edge WebView2 component has been installed, launch the new Microsoft Teams app. The error “We’ve run into an issue” is now resolved. The user can now sign in to the new Teams app.
